Interested in sharing an employment or volunteer opportunity at your organization with current Wesleyan students and/or recent graduates? We welcome you to post opportunities to the Handshake recruiting platform and connect with our office. Thank you for your enthusiasm for our students and the unique skills and experiences they build during their time at Wesleyan.

All opportunities we share with students are first posted to Handshake to help ensure all eligible students have access to the opportunities we promote. The Gordon Career Center (GCC) has used Handshake, an online recruiting platform for higher education students and alumni, since 2016 to support access to career opportunities and education for Wesleyan undergraduate students and alumni. The GCC is regularly involved in reviewing and implementing product updates to enhance students’ experience on the platform. More than 90% of Wesleyan students create a Handshake profile. Profiles include helpful information for employers such as resumes approved by GCC staff, personal interests, industry preferences, and experience details.

Once the Gordon Career Center has approved your employer registration request, you will be able to post and promote opportunities, manage your applicants, request virtual interview schedules, and more. Please contact us directly to let us know you have registered as an employer or created a posting so we can be sure to share your opportunity with interested students and alumni.

Once you complete the registration process, you will become a pending employer on Handshake. To be approved on Handshake, employer registration must include:

  • Verifiable organization name, location, and email and website addresses
  • Organization size and industry
  • Point of contact information including full name and email address that matches the domain of the organization’s website (generic names, such as “campus recruiter” will not be approved)
  • Clear and completed organization description

The Gordon Career Center reviews all employer requests and job and internship postings to ensure that the organization and opportunity are appropriate for current students and/or recent graduates. We do not approve the following employers or postings:

  • Employers whose work or services are in direct conflict with Wesleyan’s mission
  • Third-party recruiters, staffing agencies, or promoters
  • Opportunities that require a fee for participation of placement, including out-of-pocket financial expenses, test-taking, etc.
  • Unspecified opportunities to teach abroad
  • Commission-based positions that do not clearly note the compensation arrangements
  • Personal service-oriented jobs such as babysitting, nannying, dog walking, etc.

The Gordon Career Center reserves the right to decline any employer request and job or internship posting. It may take up to five business days for your employer registration and/or posting to be reviewed by a member of our team. We encourage alumni to alert us to new listings.

First we want to thank you for thinking of Wesleyan and supporting the next generation of Cardinals. Our office is excited to help you promote your opportunity to our student body and help you collect applications. Please contact us for more information and to get started.

Information on testing practices used as part of the hiring process should be shared with the Gordon Career Centers. All tests used as part of the hiring process must be a valid measure of employability and must be compliant with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) standards, and testing procedures must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Employer partners must notify students of testing at least two full days in advance, so that students who require accommodations may make arrangements.

All organizations wishing to recruit Wesleyan students for employment, unless exempt by federal law, agree to recruit, hire, train and promote individuals without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity and expression or disability.

Wesleyan University is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). As such, we adhere to NACE’s Principles for Professional Practice. Wesleyan values diversity and invites employers with a similar commitment to fairness to recruit our students and alumni. Please find our Employer Non-Discrimination Statement of Compliance here.

The Gordon Career Center believes that students should be given a reasonable period of time to consider an offer for a job or internship before being required to accept or decline. We agree with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) guidelines:

Experience shows the best employment decisions for both students and employers are those that are made without pressure and with the greatest amount of information. Students given sufficient time to attend career fairs, participate in on-campus interviews, and/or complete the interview process in which they are currently engaged are more likely to make good long-term employment decisions and may be less likely to renege on job acceptances.

Employers working with the Gordon Career Center must agree to and adhere to the following recruiting policies:

  • Former Summer Interns: Students who are offered a full-time position after completing an internship have until November 1 or two weeks after receiving the written offer, whichever is later, to accept or decline
  • Fall Recruiting: Students who are offered a full-time position or internship have until November 1 or two weeks after receiving the written offer, whichever is later, to accept or decline
  • Spring/Summer Recruiting: Students who are offered a full-time position or internship offer have until two weeks after receiving the written offer to accept or decline

We encourage employers to avoid any practices that may improperly influence or hasten a student’s decision, including the use of bonuses or other variance in compensation, placement within the organization, or exploding offers.
