Position Summary

This position supports the Assistant Director for Programming and Engagement at Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts, with a focus on connecting the CFA’s work across disciplines and into the community.

Wesleyan’s Center for the Arts (CFA) produces performances, exhibitions, and events that center creative inquiry, with a focus on interdisciplinary, global contemporary work that moves us to new ways of understanding the world. This position may help support

  • The Creative Campus Initiative, which supports faculty-driven, arts-centered classroom collaborations
  • WesGrooves Social Dance Series (approximately 2 events per semester),
  • Navaratri Festival of Indian music and dance, October 9-11, 2026
  • Public outreach programs, including the CFA’s annual 4th grade public school tours and K-12 arts exhibition.

Apply via Handshake with an approved resume and cover letter (no more than one page). Please include relevant work experience in the arts and/or event production and speak briefly about the skills you wish to develop in this position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Duties may include:

  • Program planning and support
  • On-campus and community marketing and outreach
  • Program/event documentation, archiving, and evaluation
  • Event management (artist hosting, hospitality, support staffing).
  • Artist hosting (hotel booking, catering orders, itinerary creation, in-person hosting)
  • Work with campus and community engagement manager to be a resource – and create new resources – for students interested in arts engagement with greater Middletown.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Candidates should be outgoing, collaborative, interested in the arts and creative process, have excellent writing and research skills and be resourceful, detail-oriented, and able to work independently and meet deadlines. Facility with social media marketing is a plus.

Preferred qualifications include: a strong existing connection to the Middletown community; previous previous experience with Wesleyan’s scheduling software (EMS); at least 20 years of age with a valid drivers’ license.

The ideal candidate is available for a full year.

Schedule & Availability

  • Start Date: July 15, 2026 (if available) for occasional weekly remote meetings before the semester begins on September 7.
  • Duration: Fall 2025, with potential to continue into Spring 2026 dependent on positive performance evaluations.
  • Minimum 2 hours of administrative work per week; up to 6 additional administrative and/or event support hours per week as available/interested. Available hours for this position will fluctuate based on event schedules.
  • Administrative work can be scheduled M-F, 9-5pm or more flexibly if working remotely; event staffing hours may occur at lunchtimes/afternoons/evenings, including weekends.

Department Location

Remote and in/person meetings, as well as in-person work at the CFA office in the 2nd floor of the Zilkha Gallery; and at multiple performance sites around campus.
