What was the name of the organization you worked for over the summer?
Nailepu Foundation
What did you work on?
I worked on a community-based project. My project was based on empowering young girls from the Maasai Community in Kenya who graduate from high school and want to continue with their studies, but whose families cannot afford to pay the school fees for their next level of education.
What was a highlight of your experience?
My project provided skills courses in computer programming, fashion and design, arts and film, and hairdressing to assist girls in gaining useful skills that will help them achieve self-sufficiency. It was an incredible summer for me to expand my technology skills and learn new skills from the courses that we offered. The best, and in my opinion most important, thing I gained was the ability to make people smile and help them feel a sense of happiness in their lives! Ahmed Badr, my mentor, was a great resource for me! I appreciate his encouragement and support.
How did your summer experience impact you?
I believe that empowering others and serving the community will make us feel more energetic and empowered! I learned a lot from the community and from the girls I was working with, and I really appreciate that!
