What was the name of the organization you worked for over the summer?
Bloomful

What did you work on?
I was a research intern at Bloomful, a start-up company that works on women’s health accessibility. My work included landscape mapping (researching populations of potential new markets), clinical trial research (mapping out conditions that clinical trials are focusing on, which trials are currently being run, and what types of treatments pharmaceutical companies are producing), research on women’s health conditions (specifically endometriosis, PCOS, PMDD, and menopause; looking at their prevalence, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatments), and looking at the growing role of AI in healthcare. I also completed research to help produce user-facing content on the website.

What was a highlight of your experience?
Getting to know the CEO of my company, Dr. Dupe Burgess, was a highlight of my summer. Learning about how she ended up in the start-up world after working as a medical doctor and a consultant, seeing how she balances her family and work lives, and forming a personal relationship with her was an incredibly rewarding experience.

How did your summer experience impact you?
I’ve struggled for a long time trying to figure out what I want to do in my future career; however, after working at Bloomful this summer, I know that I want to work in the field of public health and health accessibility after I graduate. Bloomful is a new start-up that was only founded within the last couple of years. Because of this, they would not have been able to afford to pay me as a summer intern. I would not have been able to have this experience or realize that this is the career path I want to pursue if it had not been for this summer grant.
