What was the name of the program you participated in over the summer?
diiVe

What was your role and what did you work on?
I was a Consulting Intern at diiVe in Cape Town, South Africa. diiVe is an educational consulting program where college students get hands-on experience with business consulting and consulting training through real-life projects and collaboration with business clients. I was the Research Lead on a business expansion team project for a South African-based biotech company that plans on expanding its business operations across 9 African cities within 3 years.

What was a highlight of your experience?
My project was mostly independent work and there was less information on the biotech industry in Africa, especially East Africa. The most gratifying moment of my experience was the business discovery (research) phase I led because my team and I had substantial information to present to our client and she was very satisfied with our work. I also learnt agile methodologies when it came to the solution implementation phase of the project, and we came up with three business prototypes. My proudest moment was delivering the final presentation to the client; I could not believe I had suggested valuable business insights that were going to be implemented by a large company in the long-term!

How did your summer experience impact you?
My summer experience gave me an opportunity to engage in a global workspace with individuals from diverse backgrounds and hit work deliverables with people working in different time zones. I also got the opportunity to work and live independently as a young adult in Cape Town, which was quite fulfilling.
