Majors: Government, Theater

What was the name of the organization you worked for over the summer?
Office of Representative Dan Goldman

What was your role and what did you work on?
I worked in my local representative’s district offices, the office of Congressman Dan Goldman in both Brooklyn and Manhattan. I did casework, which primarily meant assisting constituents with issues with federal agencies. I also staffed the Congressman, attended events on the office’s behalf, and planned and moderated a round table about issues facing seniors in NY-10.

What was a highlight of your experience?
Planning and moderating a roundtable with community leaders about issues facing seniors and how we can best represent our aging population on the federal level was a highlight of my summer. It helped strengthen my project management and public speaking skills. The roundtable also led the Congressman to cosponsor a bill to help prevent the scamming of seniors.

How did your summer experience impact you?
This summer has cemented that I would like to go into public service after graduating in the Spring. I am passionate about casework and how government can best serve constituents, and this passion will continue as I write my thesis which focuses on how a specific political coalition is represented on a national level.
