Tamiraa shares advice about navigating the job application process and balancing on-campus employment and coursework!

What advice would you give to students who are seeking or starting their campus employment journey?

My advice is to embrace opportunities and seek support when needed. When searching for jobs, it’s important to have confidence in your abilities and take proactive steps such as applying for positions that interest you, even if you feel uncertain. Talk to people during job fairs, book an appointment at the GCC, and keep a lookout on Handshake. And if you’re starting your new job, don’t be afraid of asking lots of questions because the people you’re working with all want you to succeed!

How do you manage to balance your campus job with academic commitments and other activities?

I rely on Outlook calendar to plan out my day and refer to it throughout the day to stay on track. I’ve recently introduced Notion into my routine and use it to manage assignments, tasks, and personal goals. Moreover, the flexibility of my on-campus jobs greatly aid my ability to manage my schedule.

Give your campus job supervisor(s) a shout out – what did you love about their mentorship?

I want to thank Imelda Mongillo {from University Communications} for being an incredibly supportive and understanding supervisor. I’m very glad I get to work for and learn from her.
