GCC Recruiting Policies for Students

The Gordon Career Center’s recruiting program provides students with the opportunity to engage with a variety of employers interested in hiring Wesleyan students. As a student, you can attend information sessions and webinars in order to network with employers and learn more about their organizations. Students can search and apply for jobs and internships through Handshake, and have the opportunity to interview with a number of top employers. Recruiting takes place during both the Fall and Spring semesters.

Please visit the event calendar on Handshake to see upcoming events & employers coming to campus.

Interview Policy (on-campus, virtual, and off-campus)

If you are granted an interview by an employer, and subsequently accept it, you are expected to attend. Students will be expected to adhere to the following interview policies:

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your interview due to an emergency, you must do so at least 24-hours in advance. If your interview is on a Monday, notify the GCC no later than the previous Friday by 12p.m. You must contact Emma Czarnecki, Assistant Director for Employer Relations, directly at eczarnecki@wesleyan.edu and also notify the Career Center 860-685-2180.

Interviews canceled less than 24-hours in advance of your scheduled interview time will result in a suspension of your Handshake privileges until you meet with the Associate Director for Employer Relations to discuss your missed interview. You will also be required to write a formal letter of apology to both the employer and the Gordon Career Center. You will be unable to access your Handshake account until both of these items are completed.

No-Show Policy

If you fail to alert the Gordon Career Center of your interview cancellation, you will be considered a no-show to your interview.  You will be required to meet with the Associate Director for Employer Relations to discuss your no-show interview. You will also be required to write a formal letter of apology to both the employer and the Gordon Career Center. Your Handshake account will be suspended until the executive director determines when/if account privileges are reinstated.

IMPORTANT: If you are sick, present COVID-19 symptoms, or have had a known COVID-19 exposure, please do not attend an in-person interview. Please contact Emma Czarnecki, Assistant Director for Employer Relations, directly at eczarnecki@wesleyan.edu and also notify the Career Center 860-685-2180 and we will work with you and the employer about rescheduling your interview.

If an emergency occurs and you need to cancel within 24-hours of your interview, please notify the Assistant Director for Employer Relations immediately. Situations will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Job/Internship Offer

Once you have accepted an employment offer, verbally or in writing, professional protocol dictates that you are no longer eligible to apply for positions or attend additional interviews, whether scheduled through the Gordon Career Center or your own efforts. Previously scheduled interviews must be canceled. In addition, you must reply to all employer correspondence. If you decide to withdraw your application from consideration, or to reject an offer, you must inform the employer of your decision. This protocol is expected by employers and supported by the Gordon Career Center. Any student who continues to interview after accepting a job offer will be immediately suspended from Handshake and all Gordon Career Center recruiting programs.
