Los Angeles Review of Books (LARB) Publishing Workshop

The LARB Publishing Workshop is an intensive summer training program for aspiring publishing professionals with an emphasis on diverse and innovative publishing opportunities.

A non-refundable application fee of $40 fee is required for all applicants.

Workshop Fellows will work with industry professionals who are at the top of their fields and leading transformations in traditional and digital publishing. Through lectures, seminars, and practical instruction, Fellows will learn the foundations of book, magazine, and online editing and production, digital and print publishing, and the financial and business aspects of the industry. The Publishing Workshop also offers skills-based workshops with editors, art directors, web designers, marketing professionals, and specialized tracks for hands-on experience with book and magazine production.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The LARB Publishing Workshop accepts fellows who expect to complete their undergraduate degree by December 2024, current graduate students, and professionals of all ages who are interested in transitioning to a career in publishing or starting their own press, magazine, or literary organization.

REQUIRED MATERIALS
Personal Statement: Please explain how the workshop fits into your overall publishing career goals.

Resume and Transcripts: Upload a PDF of your resume or CV and, if within 5 years of graduation, a PDF of your official transcripts from the institutions you have attended.

OPTIONAL MATERIALS
Work Samples: If you have experience relevant to the workshop in editing, publishing, layout, design or marketing, please include a portfolio of your work.

SCHOLARSHIP MATERIALS
Statement of Financial Need: If you are applying for a scholarship, outline your current financial situation and need for participating in this program.

FAFSA/1040: Our scholarship funding is based entirely on demonstrated need. Scholarship applicants must upload either a recent FAFSA or 1040 tax form. You can fill out a FAFSA for free at https://studentaid.gov/

For international applicants, upload any tax documents or statements of your monthly income that accurately reflect your income for the previously completed fiscal year.
