Program Instructor
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Boys’ Room is a mission-based affinity program that offers Self-Expression & Leadership Training to Brown boys attending private or independent schools (PWI). The mission of the program is to mentor, support and empower them during a critical time in their development. The goal is to enhance our boys socially and academically as well as to set the foundation for critical thinking.
NEEDED:
Seeking a Program Instructor for the September 2023 through June 2024 academic school year. All are welcome to apply but a BIPOC undergraduate/graduate/alumni between the age of 19-25 years is preferred. The Program Instructor must have experience being in a PWI. They must have mentoring experience and be dynamic individual who will work with the program team to deliver and ensure smooth and efficient programming. The Program Instructor is responsible for ensuring the programmatic quality and integrity of all program activities. They will be responsible for working as a team member for the development of the participants and the program.
SUPPORT AND SUPERVISION:
The Program Instructor will report directly to the Executive Director, Cindy McField-Asamoah.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work in collaboration with the Executive Director on all weekly in person programming.
Work as part of the TBR team and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
· Review and communicate activity instructional materials to the participants.
· Implement and facilitate daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for the cohort.
· Engage participants in activities and play that stimulates their development.
· Ensure all participants are following community agreements and program norms associated with appropriate behavior.
· Assist in outreach and program marketing if and when necessary.
· Provide and collect daily attendance that occur during program hours.
· Always utilize developmentally appropriate practice and best practice methods.
· Participate in the implementation of strategies designed by the Executive Director regarding recruitment and retention of participants.
· Fulfill 15-20 hours a week.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
· Ability to perform tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
· Mentally and physically capable of caring for children alone in a group setting.
· Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences.
· Strong speaking and organizational skills.
· A team player with a demonstrated commitment to working with Brown boys at a private or independent schools.
NOTE: THERE ARE FOUR PROGRAMS-NY, CT, MA & NC.
NY APPLICANTS: Must be in the NYC tri-state area and willing to travel to Kings County and New York County on a weekly basis for in person group and team meetings as well as be available for Zoom meetings intermittently.
CT APPLICANTS: Must be in the CT tri-state area and willing to travel to Fairfield County on a monthly basis for in person group meetings as well as be available for Zoom team meetings intermittently.
MA APPLICANTS: Must be in the surrounding Boston area and willing to travel to Plymouth County, Norfolk County and Middlesex County on a weekly basis for in person group meetings as well as be available for Zoom team meetings intermittently.
NC APPLICANTS: Must be in the surrounding Charlotte area and willing to travel to Mecklenburg County on a weekly basis for in person group meetings as well as be available for Zoom team meetings intermittently.
COMPENSATION: Willing to offer course credits; a stipend or a part-time position (based on experience.)
