International Buddy Program (IBP) Intern
Position Summary
The Office of International Student Affairs (OISA) seeks to hire an International Buddy Program (IBP) Intern for Fall 2024. This position is open to Wesleyan undergraduate students; you do not need to be an international student to apply. This position will help interns gain skills in student engagement, peer mentorship, and event planning and organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
The International Buddy Program (IBP) aims to make incoming international students feel welcome in the campus community and help them have a successful transition to studying at Wesleyan and living in Middletown. The program matches new international students (“Junior Buddies”) with returning international and U.S. students (“Senior Buddies”). Senior Buddies serve as a resource for one to two incoming Junior Buddies from the summer before they arrive through their first semester at the University. They offer that first Wesleyan peer-to-peer contact, guidance, and friendship, which can make a world of difference for incoming international students who are preparing to join the campus community.
The IBP Intern will assist the Assistant Director of International Student Engagement in the planning and implementation of the 2024 IBP events and provide support to new undergraduate international students. This involves planning, promoting, and hosting monthly events, helping with outreach to students participating in the program and checking on their engagement with one another, preparing and conducting surveys about students’ experiences, compiling a report at the end of the program, and organizing the start and end-of-semester social events. This position will also graphic design posters and other event materials.
Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Undergraduate students from the classes of ’25, ’26, and ‘27
- Energetic, reliable, creative, and organized
- Ability to work well both independently and in collaboration with others
- Experienced/or interested in working with diverse student populations
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Strong computer skills (proven graphic designing experience, proficiency with Canva and other graphic design tools)
Schedule & Availability:
- Period of internship: Fall 2024, one-time position. August 19–December 13, 2024.
- Hour per week: 4-8 hours
- There are some opportunities for remote/hybrid work. Remote work must be completed from within the United States.
- Department Location: OISA
- Flexible schedule but event attendance may be required.

$16 per hour
