Position Summary
Earth and Environmental Science seeks to hire a Lab Assistant to work with sediment samples to study past climate change. This position will help student employees gain skills such as sample preparation, microscope work, particle size analysis, and record keeping.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Weigh samples & record sample weights
- Dis-aggregate sample and separate by size
- Identify and count mineral grains with a light microscope
- Ability to describe thin-section mineralogy
- Operate particle size analyzer
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- E&ES major or prospective major
- Experience with mineral identification
- Attention to detail
Schedule & Availability
- Summer 2024, potential to be re-hired for the Fall
- Start Date – May 20.
- Tentative End Date – Late August or up to September 13.
- Flexible schedule, 32 hours per week
- Work is in-person
- 4th Floor of Exley
- Hours can be scheduled individually
- Preference to students who can attend weekly lab meetings

Performance Evaluation
Student work will be reviewed bi-weekly with an oral performance review at the end of each semester.
