Major(s): College of Social Studies, French Studies

What is your current role? What was your journey in arriving there?
I am the Assistant Director for Communications Campaigns and Strategy for the New York Civil Liberties Union, where I drive the strategic vision for how the NYCLU’s work is amplified in the court of public opinion.

Prior to joining the NYCLU in 2020, I was the Press Secretary for the New York City Department of Social Services-Department of Homeless Services, where I served as the spokesperson and media relations officer on behalf of New York City’s social safety net programs.

My prior experience includes policy and communications advisor roles at Witness, the New York City Commission on Human Rights, and the United Nations Development Programme. I have also managed national digital organizing campaigns for progressive candidates and causes at Bully Pulpit Interactive. I  graduated with honors from Wesleyan University and hold a Master’s of Public Policy and Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

What do you enjoy about your work? What challenges does your industry currently face?
As the Assistant Director for Communications Campaigns and Strategy for the New York Civil Liberties Union, we are facing rollbacks of civil rights and liberties across the country, including in New York State, and my job is to mobilize legislators and supporters alike to fight for a vision of racial, economic and gender justice in spite of these regressive trends.

How did your time at Wesleyan influence your career choice/journey?
Write write write! And take advantage of any opportunity to directly work with the communities you hope to support and serve in your social justice work (like the Center for Prison Education, for example).

Do you have any advice for students thinking about entering your industry?
My writing and policy expertise is a direct outgrowth of my time in CSS, where multidisciplinary studies were emphasized above all else. I now translate between policy, law, and organizing colleagues to share a holistic vision of our mission with external audiences, distilling the technical expertise of my colleagues in a way that will resonate with our base.
