Major(s): Neuroscience and Behavior

What is your current role? What was your journey in arriving there?
I have been doing lab-based research since graduation in 2011 when I decided I didn’t want to go to medical school. I went to grad school for my PhD and now study hibernating squirrels at Yale.

What do you enjoy about your work? What do you struggle with?
I like that I make my own schedule and am mostly self-driven in my experiments and research program overall.  In research, I’m always learning a new technique or analysis to keep things fresh.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about entering your industry?
Don’t be afraid to send follow-up emails! If you go to grad school, make as many friends as you can in diverse fields. You never know when you’ll need to collaborate or commiserate.

How did your time at Wesleyan influence your career choice/journey?
I was never afraid to try something for a little while to see if I liked it; Wesleyan’s open curriculum let me try a lot of things! I also made great friends and had good relationships with a lot of faculty, which has helped my academic progress as well.
