What was the name of the organization you worked for over the summer?
East Tennessee PBS

What did you work on?
I worked as an assistant marketing director for East Tennessee PBS. In this role, I helped develop and implement projects to promote the PBS national broadcast “VOCES American Historia: The Untold History of Latinos,” tentatively scheduled to air in 2024. Through a marketing lens, I scouted talent and stories in the Lakeway area to be used in social media and on-air content to showcase the unique Latino experience in Appalachia.

What was a highlight of your experience?
One of my fondest memories was working with a local artist on a new logo. Working with Latino talent on the East Tennessee PBS team fostered a great connection, and we eventually shot an interstitial to highlight this graphic designer. He was incredibly grateful for the experience. Not only did I gain insight into camera sets and filming, but my heart swelled with pride knowing that Appalachian Latinos are a vibrant force in my community. Connecting mi gente with media opportunities is a step in the right direction for East Tennessee.

How did your summer experience impact you?
My summer experience with East Tennessee PBS cemented my passion for the marketing field and public programming. Without the grant, I wouldn’t have been able to give back to the PBS station that molded me into the student and professional I am today. It has truly been a blessing and a full-circle summer, and I’m grateful to have supported one of the first Latino-centered projects at East Tennessee PBS.
