Major(s): English
Minor(s): Film Studies

What is your current role? What was your journey in arriving there?
I’m a current grad student at NYU for Educational Theater/English. If you want to get your start in show biz, you need a day job that you enjoy and, for me, that’s teaching. So here I am and I’m really enjoying my time there!

What do you enjoy about your work? What do you struggle with?
I love the freedom and creativity that teaching allows me- and a bit of comfort as I’m just starting out in the world of entertainment and theater/film-making. Currently, in Film/TV, there are a lot of strikes due to ongoing inequity and it’s hard to get your start in that climate. It’s generally an all-around difficult business but I don’t care. I love it too much to not do it in some way every day.

How did your time at Wesleyan influence your career choice/journey?
Wesleyan gave me a little bubble to be myself and figure out exactly who that was away from everyone and everything I knew before. For me, Wesleyan was a place of healing as much as it was an education that, no matter where you are in the world, there’s always problems. There’s no such thing as an utopia or perfection and that was a terrifically valuable lesson that I carry with me going forward in everything I do.

Do you have any advice for students thinking about entering your industry?
Life and art are both very changeable and filled with ups and downs so don’t expect anything different when you walk into any room. Be persistent. Be bold. Set strong but kind and compassionate boundaries. Find the love in every project you do, and don’t let anyone tell you that you should be knocked down. Don’t listen to anyone who tries to undermine you. Be kind, be brave, and be whoever you are in that moment.
