Position Summary

Film Course Assistants play a vital role in supporting the instructor and students throughout the course. Your responsibilities will encompass a range of tasks to ensure the course runs smoothly and enhance the overall learning experience for all participants. This Course Assistant will support a small class of first-generation college students who are taking FILM 300 in Fall 2026.

Application Instructions

Apply via Handshake and submit a one-page cover letter describing your qualifications and your interest in the position. Students are welcome to email the instructor introducing themselves and expressing interest in the position, but this is not required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with the instructor of the course in a small group session that meets once per week
  • Help students with class assignments.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • High degree of responsibility and dependability a must.
  • Specifics of writing about film is required.
  • Applicants must have completed either FILM 304 or FILM 307 with a grade of B+ or better.
  • Flexibility and patience needed.

Schedule & Availability

  • Course Assistant works with the instructor of the course in a small group session that meets once per week
  • FILM 300 is scheduled for Fall 2026, Tuesdays, 1:20-2:40pm – Course Assistant must be available for this session.
  • Additional schedule and hours to be determined by professor and student.
  • In-person attendance is required.
  • A minimum of one hour and twenty minutes per week during the First Things Film course time. Maximum hours, approximately six per week.
