Anika Dane is the Administrative Assistant V at the College of Integrative Sciences (CIS). In this role, she supervises the Science Journalists, Science Ambassadors, Assistant Research Educator, and Kids in Science Teaching Assistants. Anika also manages the CIS Research in Science Summer Program for undergraduate Research Fellows.
Anika is passionate about increasing access to science education and STEM research in the Wesleyan community and beyond!
What is your favorite part about working with Wesleyan student employees?
Wesleyan attracts students who are curious, compassionate, and collaborative. My favorite part about working with them is that they are active. They want to affect their community and the wider world. My student staff are always coming up with new ideas and new avenues to explore and even when they don’t work out, we all gain something from the experience of trying.
How do you think on-campus jobs contribute to students’ professional development and goals?
How does your department’s campus jobs help you and your students impact change within the university or broader community?
CIS coordinates the WesWAVES initiative to expand access to science and math. My Science Journalists profile members of the Wesleyan community, promote events, and provide educational and outreach resources for faculty, staff, and students. My student workers interact with and educate kids in Middletown schools and the surrounding area through the junior fellow summer research program and the Kids in Science Camp.
