Acceptance Rates

The acceptance rates for Wesleyan graduates applying to medical, dental, and veterinary school (based on AAMC, AACOM, ADEA, and AAVMC data**) are higher than the national average, year over year. For example, from 2023 to 2025, Wesleyan’s cumulative acceptance rate to medical school was 68.4%, compared to a national average of 45.9% during that same timeframe.

Growth Years

The vast majority of our applicants complete 1-3 growth and professional development years before applying to medical, dental, or veterinary medicine. This trend is in line with the national norm. In 2025, 72% of our med school applicants took either 1, 2, or 3 growth years.

Applying without a growth year is not only uncommon in our applicant pool, our data over the past five years shows that applicants who plan to proceed directly to medical school have lower acceptance rates than those who take at least one growth year. Students intending to proceed directly to medical school after graduating from Wesleyan should meet early and often with the Health Professions and Life Sciences Career Advisor.

Majors

The four most common majors for our health professional applicants are Biology, Neuroscience & Behavior, Molecular Biology & Biochemistry, and Chemistry. That said, many applicants to the health professions choose more diverse majors. Some students choose to major (or double major!) in the humanities or social sciences, particularly College of Letters, Hispanic Literatures and Cultures, and Economics. For those who opt to pursue a double major, Psychology, Economics, Studio Art, and Chemistry are among our applicants’ most common second majors.

Data for all known applicants to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools and dental schools with Wesleyan undergraduate degrees is based on figures from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), and the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC).

We include in our denominators all Wesleyan-supported applicants to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, dental schools, and veterinary schools who received their undergraduate degree from Wesleyan and released information about their application and admission status to us through AAMC, AACOM, ADEA, or AAVMC.

Dental & Veterinary Statistics

Due to the significantly smaller cohorts of dental and veterinary applicants, and in order to protect the privacy of our Wesleyan students and alumni, we have opted to publicize less information about these applicants’ metrics, including their GPAs and test scores.

From the 2022 Entry Year to the 2025 Entry Year, we have had 9 applicants matriculate to dental school, and 5 applicants matriculate to veterinary school.
